Dreams and Sleep Deprivation

Dreams help us on all levels. On a psychic level, certain dreams help us know about upcoming life-changing events. Sometimes  these dreams are positive, such as foretelling a business opportunity, a meeting with a person who could turn out to be a good friend or the love of our life, an idea for a career pursuit or change that will bring us fulfillment. Sometimes they are traumatic, such as foretelling danger or the death of a loved one. On a psychological level, precognitive dreams help us take advantage or deal with the future.

Some dreams are purely psychological in origin, helping us deal with stress in our lives. These dreams in my case take the forms of a tornado that follows me from town to town as I try to escape, heading down the highway from the mountains in a car with soft brakes, stopping my car beneath the same highway overpass in a high crime area of town, or, occasionally, nuclear explosions. These dreams are not foretelling tornadoes, car problems, or nuclear disaster. They are simply my mind’s way of “sweating off” stress.

What happens when the dream cycle is hindered by disturbed sleep patterns brought on by illness or a difficult work schedule? I believe that this has a negative impact on each of the four bodies. The mental body, which governs psychological health, is not able to purge stressful feelings through dream and thus retains these negative energies. This impacts the astral/emotional body and a person’s emotional state becomes more volatile. In a person with a mood disorder, this can have especially dire consequences. The physical body is negatively impacted by stress, causing organ systems to break down more quickly. And finally, the soul endures the negative impact of a personality which has not been able to grow due to stress holding one back from learning and growing, from personal satisfaction in life, and from being able to reconnect with the universal energy.

Whether or not you believe that dreams ever hold messages from the astral and spiritual realms, it cannot be denied that they are necessary to psychological and even physical health. My own sleep patterns have been negatively impacted due to a lifelong sleep disorder and a truly heinous work schedule during the past month. I feel that this not only impacts me psychologically, putting me in danger of going into a severe depressive cycle, but as well prevents me from being in touch with the energies of the other realms. I hope one day to have a life that allows me to both dream of greater things for myself and my family, and to act on making those dreams a reality, and that allows me to establish a more healthful sleep pattern, thus allowing me to receive messages from the spirit world and to “sweat off” stress through allegorical dreams once again.

May your dreams heal and guide you.

Here’s something to make your dog or cat’s dreams come true. Treats made from real sirloin. Sounds kind of like beef jerky to me!
