Looks Like Soft Core Kiddie Porn to Me

Published by bloomingpsycho at 4:34 am under Social Issues Edit This

American Apparel Exploits Girls
Do you have to exploit young girls to sell clothing? If so, your company must suck

I don’t care if the model is actually over 18. She is deliberately made to look as if she is pre-pubescent. Any company that feels it has to use methods such as provocative photos using models that look like they’re twelve is not a company that I want anything to do with. I’m tired of American Apparel and their soft core kiddie porn looking ads. Sending the message to the world as a whole that girls are nothing but pieces of tail to be ogled is wrong. Sending the message to girls that they are nothing but eye candy is wrong. And it’s particularly wrong when the girl looks like she’s still in junior high.

I could give a rat’s hindquarters about fashion, but I know that some people like to look a little more hip. Gals–there are many other places to buy trendy styles. Don’t support this company. Show American Apparel what you think about their softcore kiddie porn looking advertising by not funding it with your dollars.

When the article containing this outrageous photo was posted on Facebook, there were a couple of guys that leaped in to defend the picture and “a woman’s right to make an empowered decision.” Fine–but when that woman looks like a little girl it’s particularly offensive to my sensibilities both as a woman and a mother. And the way these guys were so vehement in defending these kinds of photos made me think, “pedophile much?” Yeah–exactly! These photos will appeal to boys in their early teens (acceptable) and sick old farts who want to get their hands on some young stuff  (so not acceptable on any level.)

The fact that these photos also tell girls that they have to behave provocatively starting at a very young age is so not acceptable on any level.

As previously mentioned, I’m no fashionista. But if any of you trend-savvy folks out there can name some companies that promote the concept of women as strong, independent people and not just eye candy, I’d love to hear about them.

We are more than just our looks. The most important part of any person is his or her soul.
