Save our Sex Objects!
“Sexy” breast cancer ads.
Appalling, not cute.
This was my response:
To me these ads do not say save breasts because women have breasts and women are worth saving. They say save breasts so the world can continue to have a set of double d knockers to leer at. Personally, I do not care to be seen as a sex object. I want to be valued as a mother, sister, and daughter, not as a pair of breasts.
I felt like I was watching soft core porn when viewing the above.
The creators say that the ads were designed to draw attention to younger breast cancer survivors. Really they do nothing but draw attention to the model’s sizable assets. One might use a poolside scene, but why not have a group of young women of various shapes and sizes engaged in fun activities? The women would be in bathing suits and the camera could briefly focus on their breasts in a non-offensive way, such as when coming out of the pool. This could be followed by words such as “did you know one in x number of breast cancer patients is under the age of 35?” In other words, a youthful focus, but natural rather than sleazy. The above ad is exploitation, pure and simple.
But hey–maybe if they make testicular cancer awareness ads that feature a well-hung stud in a tight fitting Speedo strutting across the pool area, the camera honing in on his bouncing package as everyone stares with lust, I’ll consider shutting up.

I came across this “booby scare” video recently: I suppose it’s a somewhat funny way to encourage self exams? But this vi dyou’re showing? I agree, it’s tasteless.
